Letter to The Pocahontas Times from Carolyn Gibson
I am a descendant of the Sharps. My grandmother was Mary Ella Sharp Gibson, a daughter of the original owners of the Sharp Farm.
The government took the land of Willie and Stella Meeks Gibson and their living space and business, The Wagon Wheel, which had also belonged to my grandmother—14 acres for $14,000 to build the Scenic Highway which goes nowhere.
And both properties belonged to the same family of Sharps.
Is it a habit of the government to take land from the Sharp Family to suit its needs?
Why not put it on the ballot and let the people vote on it before they again take the Sharp's land?
The Wagon Wheel could have still been in business today if the government hadn't taken it.
I think our ancestors worked hard to get and keep their land. Stop the sewer plant now. Let Snowshoe build it.
